Nostalgia

Hello!

My goodness as usual its been quite a while since my last post... perhaps I should have made a new years resolution to post with more frequency! Anywhoooo.....I am here now and thought I'd write a little something.

Its Friday ( insert expected whoops and hollars for the impending weekend here ) and on this particular Friday I found myself out and about in the world tending to my grocery shopping, ever a bargin hunter, in todays times and budget who isnt ? , I was traversing the town from store to store when I happen across a display of kids books... do you remember the "little golden books" I had several for my kids when they were little and they served well for boredom diversions and everyday entertainment .

My kids are no longer little ... one is grown and they other in high school ... so when I happen to see a familiar title book on the display .. the " The Monster at the end of this Book " story staring the old Sesame Street character Grover ... I was instantly swept up in a wave of nostalgia . My boys had enjoyed this story when they were young .... I found myself looking at the price .. $1.99 ... WOW only $1.99 for this great book! I picked it up and instantly put it in my cart ....... Common sense then whispers to me ........your kids are too old for that ....why are you buying it .........Nostalgia says .." It was special for you once " ........so for a few moments I stand there .. debating myself .......to buy or not to buy .......in the end Nostalgia won out and I justify it by saying ........oh , I'll save it for when my kids ...have kids. I purchase the book and head for home..........half way there the thought hits me ........I'd just bought the first item for "grandkids" ! EEEEEP!!! Nostalgia .......can be a wonderful thing !! but ......can also make you face a reality you might not be so ready to accept lol

Have you ever done something impulsive.. purely out of nostalgia ? If so , I'd love to hear about it ! In the meanwhile .......Thank you for reading :)

Monster Memories:

Long ago we sat to read
little you upon my knee
Monster tales inside a book
Eagerly we'd take a look

Grover on each page would say
Dont turn the page , no not today!
But turn each one with giggles we'd do
to laugh at Grover saying " How could you!"

Learned your letters and new words galore
and at the end you'd always say "more !"
Seeing the book, was like an old friend
Happy to go through your pages again

Monster tales, despite the age
makes a smile with every page
Nostalgia came in a storybook
Awaiting now a new eyes look .

I do buy nostalgic things as well. :)

The latest thing, I recently repurchased the SL land I shared with my sister, to recreate the park and castle that used to be there. I find it very cool that it sits where it used to over two years ago.

Hmm... perhaps I could recreate some childhood nostalgia in SL by building a schoolhouse where you have to walk uphill to get to *and* from it.

The Monster At The End Of This Book!!! Oh Rosa...it brought a smile to my face. When my nephew was little, had a speech problem and didn't talk much. Aunt Velv bought him that book at the grocery store *grins* and read it to him all weekend ( as so happens with new books). By the end of that weekend, we CLEARLY understood the words Monster and Boo!

The nephew will be 21 this year..(amazing since I'm only 29) I I remember it like it was yesterday, thank you :-)

My nostalgia also comes in the form of a book. I bought The Phantom Tollbooth for T8. It was the first "full length" book I ever read (first that could hold my scattered attention!), and now he's reading it too.

Poor Milo. Come to think of it, this book was like a junior version of "Lord Of The Rings" or "Narnia". Heehee!

Ha, Eric! I recall my 4th-grade teacher giving me The Phantom Tollbooth to read. And I re-read it a couple of years ago just for fun, when I was passing it along to someone else -- so I guess that qualifies as nostalgia :-)
